A rare and fine Longines Automatic, reference 2228-P.
 
10k yellow gold filled, screw-in case, 33mm diameter, downturned lugs and personalised inscription to rear. 
Case has been polished in the past.
 
Original aged white dial with applied gold arrow indexes and Deco arabic numerals to quarters, in good condition.
Printed "Longines Automatic" with applied gold winged hourglass logo below 12 o'clock.
Sub-seconds dial above 6 o'clock. 
 
Original gold dauphine hands with luminous infill.
 
Replacement gold crown.

Watch gifted to Inspector Walter Sequeira on his retirement from the Californian State Highway Patrol, in 1961. The Inspector was a key participant in the escort of President Eisenhower, on his visit to San Franciso in late August, 1956, for the Republican National Convention. The White House letter, signed by Preseident Eisenhower, makes special note of Inpsector Sequeira, after which, his commisioner (Bernard Caldwell), gives thanks to the President for praising members of his department. 
All docuements are time and date stamped by the force, for early September 1956.
